When I was an active Real Estate agent, I always had an office in the brokerage.<\/p>\n
I found it too distracting to work from home. Now, of course, I have no choice!<\/p>\n
Working in an office can be distracting, too, what with other agents stopping by to chat.<\/p>\n
But I considered these interactions one of the many benefits of working at the brokerage. It kept me in the loop, and I learned and became a better agent by listening to others.<\/p>\n
Besides, when I needed to Get Stuff Done, I simply closed my office door, and everyone knew not to bug me.<\/p>\n
I would often get asked, \u201cWhat do you do in there all day, Ted? Prospecting?\u201d<\/p>\n
Ugh. Not a chance.<\/p>\n
I made a cold call once, hung up the phone, and swore I\u2019d never do it again.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, what do you do all day?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cUm\u2026 I dunno. Mostly just take care of my clients?\u201d<\/p>\n
They would look at me in silence like they didn\u2019t believe me.<\/p>\n
Remember, I earned $590,000 in my second year.\u00a0 And, not long after that, I was making over $800,000 a year.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo, really. What do you do? What\u2019s your secret?\u201d<\/p>\n
I\u2019d look back at them in silence. I didn\u2019t understand the question. \u200d <\/p>\n
They\u2019d walk away, shaking their heads. Some of them got mad like I was selfishly hoarding the \u201csecret.\u201d<\/p>\n
But honestly, I WAS mostly just taking care of my clients.<\/p>\n
Some of you are still suspicious because I said, \u201cmostly.\u201d So, what else, Ted?<\/p>\n
OK. I was also figuring out better systems and procedures. To take better care of my clients.<\/p>\n
